COOL - Ethanol Wars...What's for Dinner?
By Diane "liberty" Bell of Home Based Business Development Center
COOL- Ethanol Wars?...What's that got to do with your supper?... First of all "COOL" as used here is an anacronym: meaning - Country Of Origin Labeling (COOL)...(A good thing?...maybe, maybe not) Of course we all know that ethanol is made with corn. Right? You probably also know that corn prices reached their all time high this past summer...that was good for the corn farmers. What's that got to do with your supper?...Maybe plenty, that is if you like a good porkchop or babyback ribs. It might even have something to do with your breakfast...if you like bacon. OK, so what's my point?...My point is: Sometimes, as consumers, we don't see how what seems like a great law, or regulation really affects us... Case in Point: COOL...Ethanol...Our Dinner Here's what's happening...(It's happening right now, so if you'll start paying attention, you can see this whole thing unfold right under your eyes...you'll see the effects of this situation beginning this summer, and it will worsen into the fall.) Country of Origin Labeling (a good concept...a bad practice!) Of course it's a good concept to know where our meat supply is coming from...however, in practice...this regulation is strangling our supply of pork from Canada. Good Pork. Pork we've been enjoying here in the states for a century... Why? Because the slaughter houses now have to tag and label every hog as it enters their system...and our supermarkets fear (I mean FEAR) the end consumer will NOT purchase this meat if it's labeled as coming from CANADA... even though they've enjoyed the quality of this great meat for decades. They fear it so much they won't buy it. OK, so that's not really bad. Right? I mean so what? As a consumer, I'll just buy meat labeled USA. NOW here's the KICKER!...Throw in our love of Ethanol and going green and Rising Corn Prices... Hogs eat Corn...it's their primary food supply. Period. Get the picture? Last summer corn prices hit an all time high of $7.00 a bushel...as I said earlier, good for the corn farmer... not so good for our US pork producers. Without going into the financial disaster this caused, let it suffice to say, our US pork producers began to sell out. No bank would dare finance them... So What?...So, now there's no supply coming from Canada, and there will be NO supply this spring and summer. Want Pork?...Get it while you can. What's coming will be in short supply and costly. So what's for dinner? How about Trout Almondine?
